Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. My name is Mrs. McDowell and I am delighted to have your child in my Transitional Kindergarten class this year. To begin, I will tell you a bit about myself. I graduated from the University of Hawai’i with a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education in 2013. In 2019, I graduated from Concordia University with a master’s in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Trauma and Resilience. I love teaching and cannot wait to begin the year with your child.
I will be using a hands-on approach as an instructional strategy for students. This approach will allow students to learn by doing instead of just learning by listening. Hands-on learning will provide an engaging environment for students. Students will learn how to use problem solving and critical thinking skills. This instructional strategy has been proven to be very effective and assist in student success.
I have high expectations for my students because I want to ensure they are successful in the classroom and in life. Students need to come to school ready and prepared. Students will be respectful and try their best. Students will actively participate and appropriately engage with other students. Students will also need strive to meet all academic expectations.
Parental involvement in education is extremely important. To help your child succeed, we must work together in collaboration. I look forward to meeting you and working with you throughout the year. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
